To drop and reallocate at least one channel of a plesiosynchronous multiplex signal, channels not to be reallocated (channels to be switched through) in communication devices are supplied to inputs of a multiplexer arranged in a transmitting section via outputs of a demultiplexer arranged in a receiving section. To simplify the structure of such a device, channel information of the channels to be switched through, contained in the multiplex signal, is recovered in the receiving section and supplied to the transmitting section, a stuffing generator being arranged in the transmitting section for each channel to be reallocated, the stuffing information of which generator is in each case multiplexed with the corresponding information of channels to be reallocated and is supplied to the inputs of the multiplexer provided for the channels to be reallocated. The field of application is so-called drop-insert multiplexers.
