An arrangement for compensating roll eccentricities distinguishes between back-up rolls with a small difference in diameter (Fig. 1) and those with a large difference in diameter (Fig. 2). In the case of rolls with a small difference in diameter (Fig. 1), only the force (FC, FD) on the two bearing ends (A, B) of the upper back-up roll (1) is recorded and fed together with the angle ( alpha o) of rotation of this back-up roll (1) to separate compensators (3, 4) for frequency analysis. Hydraulic devices (C, D) for adjusting the back-up roll (1) are controlled by way of summing points (5, 6) and position controllers (7, 8). In the case of back-up rolls with a large difference in diameter (Fig. 2), four compensators (9, 10, 11, 12) are controlled in such a way that the ends (A and B) of the upper (1) and lower (2) back-up rolls are supplied with angles ( alpha o, alpha u), with the result that the bearing ends (A) and the bearing ends (B) of the two back-up rolls are in each case processed separately in summing elements (13, 14) arranged on the output side.
