In an aircraft propeller system, a ring 29, 29 surrounds and is fastened to a rotor, such as a turbine or planetary gear transmission, and supports an array of propeller blades. A back-up system for preventing the ring from unwinding from the rotor under the influence of centrifugal load if the ring should fail 53 is provided. In one approach of the invention, a metal foil 50 is wound around the ring to provide a secondary, back-up ring.
