An air spring for disposition between first and second parts of a machine, e.g. a press frame and ram, comprises a base (36) adapted for attachment to one of said parts (eg the frame) and a plurality of open ended longitudinally extendable resilient members (38, 44, 48) stacked one above the other. Each of the members is interconnected to an adjacent member to allow air to flow from one to the other. The outer members (38, 48) are connected, respectively, to the base (36) and a pipe (52) for attachment to the other part (e.g. the ram). An elongate guide (40) is connected to at least one of the members (38, 44) to limit movement of that member in a direction transverse to the length of the guide. One member (48) has one end not connected to the guide (40) but rather that end is free to move in all directions relative to the guide to allow reciprocation between the parts without the air spring creating extraneous loading on the first and second parts because of improper alignment between the first and seconds parts and the air spring. A conduit (68) connects the interiors of the members to a large tank. <IMAGE>
