A lamp unit (1) for road vehicles is closed externally by a transparent body (3) and provided with an internal lamp- carrying body (6) defining one or more reflecting cavities (11) inside each of which there is accommodated a light source (14). An additional cavity (21) accommodates an ultrasonic sensor (25) connected to a power cable 27 and to a transmission cable 28 leading to a viewer on the vehicle dashboard. The ultrasonic sensor can be included in either a rear lamp cluster, as shown, or in the front lamp units. <IMAGE>
