PASTE TYPE CADMIUM NEGATIVE ELECTRODE FOR ALKALINE STORAGE BATTERY

PURPOSE:To form a high-performance paste type cadmium negative electrode requiring no chemical conversion process by generating metal cadmium powder from a molten metal in the eutectic state of indium and metal cadmium by atomization and containing indium in it. CONSTITUTION:Metal cadmium powder as the preliminary charge quantity is added to an active material mainly made of cadmium hydroxide or cadmium oxide, and the metal cadmium powder is obtained from molten metal cadmium containing indium by atomization. Indium and cadmium are easily made eutectic at the melting point 320 deg.C of cadmium or above, thus indium is uniformly dispersed in the metal cadmium powder obtained from the eutectic metal of cadmium and indium by atomization. A paste type cadmium negative electrode with excellent characteristic requiring no chemical conversion process is obtained.
