PURPOSE:To permit to make a high-luminance and high-efficiency lighting by using xenon for filler gas, giving the pressure of gas filled with its specified amount, pulse live time and an intermittent pulse live time ratio respectively to a lamp, and then lighting the lamp intermittently under such a condition as this. CONSTITUTION:A rare gas discharge fluorescent lamp has a phosphor screen formed almost all over the internal circumferential face of its straight-shape cylindrical glass bulb 10 into which xenon gas is filled, while paired electrodes 3a, 3b are respectively sealed within both end portions of the inside of the bulb 10A kind of gas having pressure within 10Torr and 200Torr is used also for the xenon gas being filled into the bulb, and then a pulsating voltage having the ratio of its live time to one cycle, being within 5 percent and 70 percent, and yet having the live time below 150 microseconds is impressed between both the electrodes 3a, 3b for causing the rare gas fluorescent lamp to be lit. Thus, the pulsating voltage impression enlarges the probability of exciting xenon molecules resulting in larger lighting efficiency of the lamp. |
