An exercise apparatus 1 has a support structure 2 which carries a continuous bearing surface 9 for at least the greater part of the body and on which the bearing surface is arranged in such a way that it can be adjusted in terms of its inclination, said bearing surface 9 exhibiting a convex curvature in the longitudinal direction. This bearing surface consists of a central area and of end areas 7, 10 which form a continuation of the central area on both sides and which can be formed into an obtuse angle which is open to the underside of the bearing surface. In addition, an adjustment device is provided for altering at least the magnitude of the obtuse angle between the end sections. In order to guarantee exercise work which is particularly effective and especially good for the area of the pelvic vertebrae, the central area of the bearing surface 9 is designed as a bending zone B which is limited in length so that the convex curvature of the bearing surface 9 can be adjusted exclusively in the bending zone. <IMAGE>
