A magnetic recording material is produced to give a higher recording density and an improved temp. charateristic of a magnetic coercitivity field strength without a loss of the magnetic satn. The magnetic material having the coercitivity field strength of 200-2000 Oe comprises hexagonal ferrite particles of formula AFe(12-x-y) MxSnyO19[A=Ba, Sr, Ca and/or Pb; M=Mn, Co, Zn, Ni, In, Se, Ti, Ge, Zr, B, Nb, Sb, T, Cr, Mo and/or W; x=0-2.5' y= 0.05-1.0 . The material has a high density magnetic recording characteristic.
