PRODUCTION OF 4,4'-DINITRODIPHENYL SULFIDE

PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound useful as a raw material for functional resins such as polyimide or polyamide by reacting a p-nitrohalobenzene with a metal sulfide compound in the presence of a pyridine derivative. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound can be produced by reacting a p- nitrohalobenzene (e.g. p-nitrochlorobenzene) with a metal sulfide compound (e.g. sodium sulfide) in the presence of a pyridine compound having a substituted amino group and expressed by formula (R<1> and R<2> are H or 1-13C alkyl) (e.g. 4-dimethylaminopyridine) in the absence of solvent or preferably in a two-phase solvent system composed of water and an organic solvent (e.g. benzene) in an inert gas atmosphere at 50-120 deg.C for 4-10hr. The amount of the compound of formula is 0.1-10mol% based on the p-nitrohalobenzene.
