This device comprises a clamp (5) suspended in floating fashion from a cross-member (4) of the chassis (2) of the vehicle and carrying, between its ends, a plate (7) perpendicular to its arms. A bracket (10) is integrally joined to the axle (2) to be raised and carries, between the arms of the clamp, a second plate (9) which is at a distance above the first plate. A pneumatic jack (11) is connected between the plates (7, 9).
