The invention relates to a reservoir for brake fluid at atmospheric pressure for a motor vehicle, having in its upper section an essentially vertical and cylindrical neck, fitted to which is a filling cap (3), and comprising at least one aperture leading to the open air (22). According to the invention it comprises a seal (20) with preformed flexible lip (28) which, opposite the aperture (22), leaves the latter open in the rest position, and a piston (30), a first end (32) of which opposite the lip (28) slides freely in the neck (2) in such a way as to apply the lip (28) to the aperture (22) thereby closing the latter when a force is applied at its second end (34). The second end (34) of the piston (30) is preferably provided with a float (36). <IMAGE>
