The present invention relates to a photosensitive member containing a specific azo compound for a charge generating agent, which is improved in photosensitive properties, in particular, sensitivity. The specific azo compound is represented by the formula (1): <IMAGE> [I] wherein A represents an aromatic hydrocarbon or a heterocyclic ring; R1 and R2 independently represent a hydrogen, a halogen atom, or an alkyl, aralkyl, aryl, condensed polycyclic ring or condensed heterocyclic ring; or R1 and R2 combinedly form a cyclic ring; n represents an integer from 1 to 4.
