thylene or ethylen and above C3 alpha olefin are polymerised using catalyst obtd. from (A) solid catalyst component and (B) Al cpd. of formula (I). (A) is obtd. by reacting Al halide with silicon cpd. of formula (II), prepg. a carrier by reacting the reaction prod. with grignard's reagent of formula (III) and contacting the carrier with a Ti cpd. of formula (IV). IN formulas, R1, R2, R3 and R4 are C1-8 alkyl, phenyl or C7-10 aralkyl; R5 is C1-6 alkyl; X1 and X2 are halogen; I and m are 0,1,2 or 3; n is 1 or 2. Pref. silicon cpd. is e.g tetramethoxysilane, methyltrimethoxysilane, dimethyldiethoxysilane, trimethylethoxysilane and the Al halide ratio to 1 mol of silicon cpd. of 0.25-10.
