Coating resin compsn. comprises a mixed alkylated melamineHCHO resin (5-50 wt.%); and a copolymer resin (95-50 wt.%) with reactive substits. The former resin is obtd. from a melamine-HCHO condensate having up to four -CH2OH gps. per melamine ring, which have been O- alkylated to form -CH2Me (1-3.5 mol per mol melamine) and -CH2OBu (0.5-3.0 mol per mol melamine), leaving some free -CH2 OH gps. (0-0.5 mol per mol melamine) and -NH gps. (0.5-3.0 mol per molmelamine); with mean degree of polymerisation 1.5-3.5. The copolymer is obtd. from a vinyl cpd. with one or more OH, SH, COOH, CH2OH, glycidyl and/ or alkoxymethylol gps; and another vinyl monomer, alkyd resin or polyester resin with at least one OH and/or COOH substit.
