DISK ACCESS CONTROL METHOD FOR DISK CONTROLLER CONTAINING CACHE

PURPOSE:To improve the cache availability by using no path having a cache access fault and inhibiting the use of a cache in case the number of practicable storage paths is small in a path group and setting the halted path in an available state again. CONSTITUTION:The paths having the cache access faults are not used to the disks 2 and 3 which perform the accesses with use of caches. At the same time, the paths which have the cache access faults are halted when these faults occurred in a disk controller 1. Thus the application of caches is continued. Then the application of caches is inhibited to the access requests to the optional disks 2 and 3 given from an optional path group in case the number of storage paths (SP) which are practicable with use of caches is small within a path group. Then the paths halted due to the cache access faults are available again. Thus the cache availability is improved.
