PURPOSE:To reduce splashes by lowering a head driving frequency when recording is performed in a splashing direction rather than when recording is performed in a direction in which splashing never occurs. CONSTITUTION:A serial ink jet recorder mounts a head 6 on a carriage 5 moving along a platen 2 and instructs the head 6 to scan a sheet 1. This recorder adopts such a control method that the head driving frequency in the recording direction B in which splashes occur is lowered rather than in the recording direction A in which no splash occurs, thereby making a splash inconspicuous. Since the head driving frequency has a fixed corresponding relation to the scanning and moving speed of the carriage 5, the head driving frequency is controlled by changing the driving cycle T of a carriage motor 7. Consequently, by changing the length of the driving cycle T of the carriage motor 7, the moving speed of the carriage 5 and the driving frequency of the heat 6 are changed without altering recording results, and moreover the splash 59 can be reduced prevented. |
