The warm heavy tar at about 70 DEG C, separated in heavy tar separators from the coke oven gas, is comminuted to a grain size of less than 1 mm and passed at a temperature not lower than 60 DEG C to a mixing device in which the heavy tar is mixed with a part quantity of the feed coal for a coking plant, the mixing ratio being selected such that the mixture leaving the mixing device is dry to the touch. The mixture is then mixed with the remaining feed coal and subjected to coking in a coke oven. In the plant for carrying out the process, a collecting conveyor (2) is used for conveying the heavy tar leaving the heavy tar separators (1) to the comminution device (3), the heatable surge bunker (6) is provided with a discharge screw (8), and the part quantity of the feed coal is stored in a buffer bunker (12) before being mixed with the heavy tar in the mixing screw (9).

|
