A compsn. for harnessing the hydrogen energy of a hydrocarbon fuel comprises 10-90 wt.% of a liposoluble organometallic cpd. and 90-10 wt.% of an oil-based vehicle. The pref. liposoluble organometallic cpd. comprises an organo Li; or 7-60 wt.% organo Li and 3-30 wt.% organo Mg and 1-10 wt.% organo Al. The vehicle pref. comprises 0.1-12 wt.% of an oxidn. promoter and the balance a diluent oil; or 0.1-25 wt.% aromatic hydrocarbons and the balance of one or more of an organic, inorganic or synthetic diluent oil.
