(S) and (R,S)-1'-Alkoxycarbonylethyl 2-chloro-5-(2-chloro-4-trifluoromethylphenoxy)benzoates, process for their preparation and their use in herbicidal compositions

The invention relates to a new herbicidal composition which comprises the S enantiomer or the racemate of a compound of general formula I, <IMAGE> in which R is a methyl or ethyl group, as active component at a concentration of 0.01 to 95.0 % by weight with one or a number of solid and/or liquid supports, preferably ground natural or synthetic materials, and/or with one or a number of inert solvents, preferably xylene(s) and/or cyclohexanone, and optionally with one or more surface-active agents, preferably anionic and/or nonionic emulsifying or dispersing agents. The invention additionally relates to the above compounds of general formula I and to a process for preparing them. The compounds according to the invention have a notable herbicidal effect (greater than 90 %) and advantageous selectivity threshold values with respect to cultivated plants.
