A Schift base of formula (I) is prepd. by reacting an aldehyde or a ketone of formula R1R2C=O with a polyoxyalkylene amine of formula H2N[OH(CH3)CH2O y-[CH2CH2O xR3. In the formulas, R1 and R2 are each H or C9-20 alkyl; R3 is C1-4 alkyl; y is 1-3; x is 4-50. The surfactant comprises 0.1-20 wt.% Schiff base and water.
