This tensioner comprises a tensioning pulley 3 around which the belt 2 passes, and which is mounted so that it can rotate freely on a disc 4 which is articulated to a first fixed point 5, and a lever 14 composed of a first element 15 and of a second element 16 which slide on one another, one of which is articulated to a second fixed point 19 and carries, via an unblockable link, a first end of a linear actuator with a calibrated spring 12 provided with a removable stop pin 13, whereas the second one is fixed rigidly to the second end of the sprung actuator and is blocked on the first element by unblockable means, the disc 4 pivoting about the first fixed point 5 in response to a translational movement of the second element 16 on the first one 15. <IMAGE>
