The invention relates to an installation for laying down a covering onto a continuous sheet-metal strip, such as a continuous lacquering installation. The metal sheet B passes in succession through a preparatory treatment station 4 and then at least one coating and drying station 34, 40 in which the metal sheet moves vertically downwards. The latter station comprises, in the order in which the strip passes them, a device 12 for laying down the covering liquid onto the sheet-metal strip, then heating means 13 to 15 which evaporate the solvent and polymerise the binder, and the strip next passes into a cooling device preferably comprising a tank 36, 42 which is filled with refrigerant liquid and in which is placed a guide or return roller 37, 43 which changes the direction of the sheet-metal strip. <IMAGE>
