The invention relates to a steering system for vehicles in which the front and rear wheels are guiding wheels. In order to reduce the space required during the manoeuvres for getting into a lateral space, a manually actuated electronic control device is provided, which acts on the control elements of the steering, of the gearbox, of the brakes and of the engine so as automatically to orient the front and rear wheels 2, 3 in the same direction, alternately to the right then to the left, and, each time the orientation of the wheels is reversed, to reverse the direction of travel of the vehicle.
