PURPOSE: To determine radioactivity accurately with less error by determining a regression equation from the counting efficiency of a standard sample and the accumulation counting rate of an unknown sample via a multi-channel analyzer and extrapolating the correction regression equation of a spectrum region for reducing an error, and using the equation. CONSTITUTION: Photons generated in opposite direction by a standard sample from a chamber S13 are detected by photomultipliers 11 and 12, a coincidence gate 15 is controlled via a coincidence circuit 14, photon pulses obtained by A/D conversion are analyzed through each window of a multichannel analyzer 20, and a count rate is supplied to a computer 21. The same also applies to an unknown sample. The computer 21 determines a regression equation from the counting efficiency of the standard sample and the accumulation counting rate of the unknown sample, further compensates for a regression equation at a spectrum region for reducing error, and the radioactivity of the unknown sample is determined accurately with a small error based on the regression equation.
