PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency of a discrimination between the image part and non-image part by reading an original image, line by line, in order, deciding the image part and non-image part in image element units, and outputting decided image elements together. CONSTITUTION:A line sensor reads the image data of the original image 1 by lines 15 in order and stores binary-coded data on each read image element 10 in a line memory. Then, the evaluation window 16 consisting of an object image element 10c and its peripheral image elements 10 is set, the image element 10c is evaluated by a connecting method, and the evaluation result is stored in a result memory. Then the window 16 is shifted by one image element and similar evaluation is performed. This operation is repeated and the contents of the result memory are all put together in a memory for output; when the contents of the memory for output are a positive part finally, the contents are regarded as an image 3 and when the contents are a negative part, a non- image part (4a - 4c) is judged and outputted to an opaquing device. |
