A vessel (4), in particular a service water tank, is to be surrounded with an insulating foam (7), it being intended to prevent foam from escaping at separation joints, to avoid the use of a release agent in the foaming mould (1) and to provide the finished foam-encapsulated unit with a fully enclosed sheath. For this purpose, a film bag (2) is placed into the foaming mould (1), the vessel (4) is introduced with a spacing on all sides and, after closing the mould, the remaining cavity is filled with insulating foam (7). The film bag (2) thereby comes to lie on the inner walls of the foaming mould (1) and forms a fully enclosed outer skin. <IMAGE>
