The invention relates to a microphone for detecting sound signals. To increase the sensitivity of the microphone, it is proposed according to the invention to construct the latter as a horn microphone (M1 to M5). A tapering horn section (1) is used as waveguide, the base area (2) of which is in vibrating contact with the medium to be measured. In the horn section (1), the received vibration signal propagates as longitudinal and transverse wave in the direction of the tapered end area (3). Vibration sensors (4) attached to the end area (3) pick up the signal which is amplified in accordance with the tapering of the area. A linear frequency response can be achieved by using a nonreflective termination (5) of the horn section (1). The horn microphone can be used as geophone, hydrophone and also as aerophone. <IMAGE>
