Process for operating a Claus plant

In this process, an optimum partial combustion of the feed gas is carried out as a function of the hydrogen sulphide mass flow fed in either in one or in two combustion furnaces arranged in parallel, whereupon the further treatment of the gas in a single Claus reactor is carried out, the production capacity of this reactor being designed for the maximum sulphur mass flow to be expected.
