The two inlet ports 4, 5 of each cylinder are connected by individual intake passages 14, 15 to a common intake chamber 16. Throttle valves 20 which may close individual intake ports 15 in the lower engine speed range to improve charging, are arranged upstream of the web walls 13 separating the individual intake passages 14, 15. The passages may be semi-circular or rectangular.
