NEW MATERIAL:An antitumor substance having the following physical properties. Molecular weight: >=10,000. Distinction between basicity, acidity and neutrality: weakly acidic (pH 5-6). Color: light yellow. Specific rotatory power: [alpha]: D(C=0.1%, 0.1N-NaOH). Elemental analysis: C about 38-52%, H about 5-8%, N about 8-12%. Content of protein and sugar: about 63-81% protein and about 6-17% sugar. Infrared absorption spectrum: shown by figure 2. USE:An antitumor agent. PREPARATION:Pulverized internal organs except gonad of echinodermatous animal (e.g. Anthocidaris crassipsina) are extracted with an aqueous solvent, the extracted solution is subjected to one or more treatments selected from ultrafiltration, gel filtration, dialysis, organic solvent precipitation, ion exchange resin treatment, salting-out and electrophoresis to collect a fraction having >=10,000 molecular weight. |
