A PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF IMPACT RESISTANT COATINGS AND ELECTRO DEPOSITABLE AQUEOUS DIP LAQUER COATING COMPOSITIONS

Pitting in electrodeposition coatings has hitherto been prevented by adding pigment or acrylate resins. This adversely affected the adhesion of the following paint. The object is to provide novel electrodeposition coatings which ensure good adhesion of the following paint and good stone chip resistance. This is achieved by an electrodeposition coating composition which contains an aqueous dispersion of a cathodic or anodic deposition resin and polymer microparticles. The polymer microparticles have a glass transition temperature of below +10 DEG C. A good antipitting effect is thus achieved without impairing the adhesion of the following paints with good stone chip protection. The coating compositions are particularly suitable for the preparation of primers for motor vehicles.
