An improved solid X-ray contrast medium which comprises an iodine substituted aromatic polymer (1) containing 1 - 75 wt.% of iodine ( preferred 5 - 75 wt.%). The aromatic polymer is an aromatic linear polymer obtained from styrene, vinyl toluene, vinyl naphthalene. It can be an aromatic bridge polymer obtained from a mono vinyl monomer and a bridging agent. The aromatic mono vinyl monomer is an aromatic monomer such as styrene, vinyl toluene vinyl naphthalene. The bridging agent is a vinyl monomer having two or more functional groups and is one of divinyl benzene, trivinyl benzene, divinyl toluene, divinyl-diphenyl-ether, ethylene glycol, ethylene glycol-dimethacrylate, trimethylol propane-trimethacrylate, divinylpyridine and trivinylpyridine. Typical examples of the aromatic monovinyl monomer and the bridging agent are styrene and divinyl benzene, respectively. The aromatic bridge polymer is obtained from the aromatic vinyl monomer, the bridging agent and one or more monomers capable of polymerising with them. The polymerising monomers are acrylonitrile, pref. methacrylate, methyl, octadiene isoprene.
|
