PURPOSE:To suppress the electrolysis of ink and to prevent a recording quality to be executed in a state that no ink remainder exists from decreasing by applying a voltage between a pair of electrodes at a timing regarding a recording operation using a recording head to detect the remainder of recording liquid. CONSTITUTION:The detection of ink remainder is conducted at a predetermined timing by a controller 50 each time one line is completely recorded by a recording head or at the time of waiting. On the other hand, ink introduced from an ink tank 102 to a supply passage 114 through an ink supply port 129 is introduced to next zone over a rib 120A, supplied from here into a recording head chip 111 through a route of an arrow, and the ink is discharged at the time or recording, etc. When the ink in the ink tank 102 is wasted out and the ink is not introduced into the ink supply passage 114, an ink remainder detector 113A is exposed above liquid surface to interrupt electric conduction between detectors 113A and 113B. When the remainder is detected, a switch 119 is closed and a voltage is applied between the electrodes 113A and 113B. The presence or absence of the ink remainder is discriminated on the basis of a voltage V exhibiting in this case between both the electrode. |
