PURPOSE:To switch printing operation quickly between portrait direction and landscape direction by reading out data sequentially starting at an address determined through a start address determining means when the data are read out from a bit map memory. CONSTITUTION:A printer controller comprises print range lateral and longitudinal dot count registers 16, 17, a flag register 18 for indicating whether the printing direction is in the portrait direction or landscape direction, and the like. When data are read out from a bit map memory, i.e. a DRAM 19, under control of a CPU 11 during transfer of print data through a DMA transfer control section 15 to a page printer, data are read out sequentially starting from an address set in a transfer start address register 14 and printing is carried out in the direction being set in the register 18. By such arrangement, printing speed can be improved when printing of a page printer is switched between portrait direction and landscape direction. |
