PURPOSE:To form an abrasive wear resistant material well usable as the material of the nozzle of a super high pressure abrasive water jet having large capacity by dispersing fibrous silicon carbide in a boron carbide matrix. CONSTITUTION:This abrasive wear resistant material is formed by dispersing fibrous silicon carbide in a boron carbide matrix. For example, it is preferably obtd. by uniformly mixing boron carbide powder of about 0.5-50mum grain size with about 5-50vol.% fibrous silicon carbide of about 0.5-5mum diameter and about 100-500mum length and by sintering the mixture in a gaseous Ar atmosphere under the conditions of about 2,000-2,200 deg.C and about 100-500kg/cm<2> pressure with a hot press. |
