THERMAL RESPONSE TYPE FLUID FAN COUPLING DEVICE

The hydraulic clutch has a drive plate (7) connected to the drive shaft (1) and coupled to the fan housing via two hdraulic slits (4) on each side of the plate. The flow of fluid from a central sump (6) to the slits is regulatied by a thermally controlled valve (9,8) operating through a central hole. When the engine is switched off excess fluid is dumped into an overflow space (14). The fluid flow to the overflow space is regulated by the rotation of the drive plate. The uncoupled clutch allows a smooth takeup of torque for the fan when the engine is switched on.
