The device, intended for a transport installation with automatic control of the movement of the vehicles along a track, includes separate control automations each one assigned to the management of a given length of the track, each length being provided with means for communication between the fixed automation for managing this length and the vehicles circulating on the length and each vehicle being provided with means for approximately locating the vehicle on the track. Each length includes an end portion constituting a lock chamber 28 and provided with means allowing the vehicle to be made to communicate not only with the automaton 16 for the length 20 to which the end portion belongs, but also with the automaton 14 managing the adjacent length 18 and includes means 26 controlled by the vehicle as it passes through a given location of the end part, giving rise to the transfer of control from one automaton to the other. <IMAGE>
