PURPOSE:To always display the picture information at a high speed and with no loss regardless of the contrast information of the picture information by adding an auxiliary memory means which stores the display information on the picture data as well as the information on the picture data. CONSTITUTION:The picture data stored in a memory 10 is processed as necessary by a processor 11. Then the maximum and minimum values Imax and Imin of the processed picture data are informed to a look-up table production part 13 as soon as the picture data is processed. When the picture data stored in the memory 10 is transferred to an auxiliary memory 9, the contents of a look-up table part 12 are also stored. Then the contents of a look-up table are also read together with the picture data and written into the part 12 when the picture data is read out of the memory 9 to the memory 10. As a result, the information on the relevant picture is always displayed at a high speed with no loss regardless of the contrast range of the picture data.
