The subject of the present invention is a method and a device for cutting and piercing material on a work site allowing the interchangeability of a known saw and of a known core sampler which are mounted on a common guide system. The device includes two known guiding systems 2 and 5 including elements 12 which can be interfitted, two carriages 3 which are associated with any drive system 13 secured to the guides, and two end supports 1 of one of the guides fixed to the surface of the material to be pierced and to be cut. The first carriage 31 carries a chair 4 receiving the end of the second guide system 5 and the second carriage 32 receives, as needs be, a saw 6 of the disc type or a core sampler 7 which are easily interchangeable in situ by virtue of a quick-locking system 92. <IMAGE>
