In order to extend the possibility of a zone-by-zone adjustment of the clear width of the slice gap (exit gap) on the flow box of a paper machine, sections (11) are provided on the bottom lip (1) over the whole width of the slice gap, on which means (15) are arranged for setting the relative height of the lip (1), by which means the clear width of the slice gap can be changed zone-by-zone in the region of the respective section (11). In one exemplary embodiment, the bottom lip (1) is made of flexible material, and there is on each section (11) a cell having a closed space which is formed between a lower wall (13) supported in a fixed position, an upper, positionable wall (14) and interposed bounding cell walls (12). A heatable laminar bimetallic element (15), which is flexible transverse to the longitudinal direction of the lip (1), is built into the space. The lower wall (13) is made of a comparatively hard elastic material of high modulus of elasticity, the upper wall (14) of a material which is likewise hard but of low modulus of elasticity. The cell walls (12) are constructed from a very soft, easily extensible elastic material. <IMAGE>
