The invention relates to a housing for the connection of communications systems. This housing has a removable mounting insert for fitting plug connectors, sockets or the like. This housing can be connected to a flush-mounted socket or surface-mounted socket or boxes or to a cable duct, possibly with the interposition of a covering frame and/or a supporting ring. The housing has a plurality of devices which can be used optionally for fitting the mounting insert in different positions with respect to the walls of the housing. In this case, a plurality of grooves which can be used optionally are preferably arranged on the insides of the side walls of the housing, which grooves are open on one side and of which two diametrically opposite grooves are in each case used for detachably fitting the mounting insert. It is provided for one and the same housing to be assigned a plurality of differently designed mounting inserts which can be used optionally. Each of these mounting inserts can be connected to the walls of the housing in different positions.
