PURPOSE:To eliminate a paper jam in the contact of a platen with a bail roller by detecting the contact of the bail roller with the platen during a positive direction line feed driving before the bail roller presses paper to the platen, and reversely driving the paper in the line feeding. CONSTITUTION:When the fact that a bail lever 3 is not opened is decided, i.e., when a bail roller 2 is brought into contact with a platen 1, a paper sucking operation is forcibly finished, a reverse line feeding drive is started to retreat the paper and whether the paper reverse line feeding drive is finished or not is judged. If it is finished, this operation is ended. When the fact that a paper is attached to the platen 1 is judged, the reverse line feeding drive is started to retreat the paper whether the reverse line feeding drive is finished or not is decided, and if it is finished, this operation is ended. Thus, if the bail roller is already brought into contact with the platen during suction of the paper between the platen and the bail roller, it is switched to the reverse line feeding drive to retreat the paper, thereby preventing the paper from clogging at the contact of the platen with the bail roller. |
