摘要
In order to protect the biological processing stage of a sewage-treatment plant from disruption caused by bacterial poisons in the waste water, the water must be continuously monitored for components which will inhibit the action of the bacteria and thus have an adverse affect on the sewage-degradation process. This is done by diverting part of the waste-water stream to a measurement station where one of the total-load parameters, such as the chemical oxygen demand, total organic carbon or biochemical oxygen demand, is determined. Another part of the waste-water stream is mixed with an oxygen-rich bacterial-sludge suspension and the resulting mixture passed through an oxygen-measurement station where the oxygen-uptake value DELTA pO2 is measured. The oxygen-uptake value and the value of the total-load parameter are used to calculate a dimensionless oxygen-consumption coefficient characteristic of the waste water and largely independent of fluctuations in load.
