A single-edged reamer comprising a cutter head (9) having at its peripheral surface a cutting edge (13) and at least two guide strips (10, 11), a flexible shank (23) and a clamping cylinder (27) having a clamping surface (29) in its circumference (27). The clamping cylinder (27) is characterised in that the clamping surface is arranged on the side of the reamer (1) on which the guide strip (11) opposite the cutting edge (13) is located. When the reamer (1) is clamped in place in a tool holder (3), the cutter head (9) is deflected in the direction of the guide strip (11) opposite the cutting edge (13). This ensures that, during the machining of a bore, the guide strip (11) comes into engagement with the wall of the bore before the cutting edge (13) touches the wall. This guarantees that the reamer (1) is inserted gently into the bore (7) and that, even at high reaming speeds, optimum dimensional accuracy and surface quality are achieved at the bore to be machined. <IMAGE>
