Watertight insulating covering for cable junctions

Watertight, branching connection between two or more cable ends is made with a foil of polymer material, which is heated and cooled to shrink it onto the connection. The joint also comprises fixing devices such as clamps cooperating with moulded or extruded lugs. A monoaxially shrinking knitted fabric is applied over the foil.The fabric may be rolled, glued or loosely laid over the entire surface area of the foil. The fabric may be of polyethylene fibres or strips or of polypropylene. The clamps in particular are of plastics having a m.pt. above 200 deg.C.By the use of a fabric in this way, the thickness of the foil can be reduced, from the previous typical values of 1-2mm to 0.5 or even 0.1mm
