The invention concerns a method and a device for starting an electrical machine with three or more phase circuits (Phase 1 - Phase 3) with varying reluctance dependant upon the position of the machine's rotor in relation to its stator, in order to give a choice of which phase circuit or circuits are to be connected in order to provide a torque in a required direction. The machine's reluctance cycle is divided into a number of rotor position angled zones (zone 1 - zone 6) where, for a size L with clear relation to the machine's reluctance value in at least two of the machine's phase circuits, there is a clear relation between these sizes within each zone. Comparison of the size ratio between the measured sizes is determined and thereby the zone, which gives the rotor's position in relation to the stator. Guided by the zone obtained, connection is made of the phase circuit or circuits which provide a driving force in the required direction. <IMAGE> |
