To create a display device, in particular traffic sign, consisting of a housing made from metal or plastic profiles and having a transparent front side which is controlled as required only at times of actual necessity, which offers an effective but nevertheless inexpensive warning possibility, an information sign (5) or signs of plastic, metal, or fabric, flashing lamps (6) or luminous lamps (7) are accommodated in the housing and, running in front of it in guide tracks, an opaque blind (shutter) (4) made of plastic, metal, or fabric which, by means of one or more geared motors (9) releases or covers the view through the front panel, the geared motor(s) (9) being switched via a radio link by a programmable controller (stored-program controller) which is in another location and has the possibility for manual intervention and for sensors to be connected (Figure 1). The device is supplied with energy by means of solar cells which are combined to form a rotatable and pivotable "solar panel" on the fastening post (11) of the sign and an accumulator block (10) or blocks accommodated in the post.
