PURPOSE: To efficiently produce sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid at the same time by bringing a hot waste gas contg. SO2 and HCl into contact with a wet activated carbon to oxidize SO2 into H2 SO4 and evaporating the water and HCl in the gas stream. CONSTITUTION: The waste gas 1 contg. SO2 and HCl is introduced into a washer 2 and washed with 40-80% sulfuric acid, dil. acid is added from an activated- carbon reactor 4, and the sulfuric acid leaving the bottom of the washer 2 is sprayed into the hot waste gas 1 through a nozzle 6. The obtained 40-80% sulfuric acid is discharged through the overflow pipe passing through the liq. The waste gas 12 introduced into the washer 2 is countercurrently washed with the hydrochloric acid discharged from the bottom of a scrubber 11. The water is supplied to the scrubber 11, in such amount that necessary amt. of hydrogen chloride is contained in the purified gas 16 and conc. hydrochloric acid can be obtained in an overflow pipe 17 passing through the liq. |
