PURPOSE:To prolong the lifetime of a battery by combining use in the insufficiently charged condition with use in overcharged condition, and thereby suppressing heat emission and temp. rise of a sealed type lead-acid battery. CONSTITUTION:When a shallow discharge and a charging for a short time are repeated, the amount of heat emission will enlarge incl. reaction at the neg. electrode, and thus the pos. electrode grating is overcharged to in crease the amount of corrosion, which should shorten the lifetime of the battery. When the battery is charged in the condition to generate insufficient charging, by contrast, lead sulfate is accumulated in the active substance to cause gradual drop of the battery capacity. Now charge/discharge to perform constant-current, constant-voltage charging with the peak current under a certain value is repeated for a plurality of runs, and charge/discharge to perform constant- current, constant-voltage charging with the peak current over a certain value only when the voltage in the final period of discharging has become below the reference value, shall be repeated for a plurality of runs. Thereby temp. rise of the sealed type lead acid battery is suppressed, and the lifetime of the battery can be prolonged. |
